Kaleidoscope
Day by day their world is filling up with colour, the little ones. Reds and blues, yellows and greens. Twinkling lights that glisten and gleam. Their reflections staring back at them. Wide eyed and full of hope. Mirrors, lights, colours and sounds. The world is their Kaleidoscope. A show for ages 6 to 18 months.
Inspired by research into how a baby’s sense of sight develops and how they instinctively begin to categorise colour, Kaleidoscope brings a multi-coloured to life on stage for babies and their parents. We visited The Sussex Baby Lab in the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex, where we watched first hand their methodology in using eye tracking technology and rapidly changing patterns to investigate the order and speed of development of colour perception in the very young.
And from that starting point and building on the pixel mapping technique we first used in 2016’s Bright Sparks, we devised a show full of colour, patterns and play with what we had learnt to capture their attention and delight our young audience.
